All-Star Rimirez Goes Hollywood

All-Star Rimirez Goes Hollywood, for real this time.
by Dennis Paige, Editor Tabloid Paige
8/1/2008,

Hollywood gets a Star performer with the trade of Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers. Ramirez who's performances in Boston included " I Can Get You Home if I Want to". "Money Matters, Why I can't Think Straight". And last of all His comical, "Catch It if You Can" And "Manny Being Manny". As Manny's saga continues in Hollywood more titles will be added to the Manny Ramirez portfolio. Ramirez should make his Hollywood premier debut Friday night against Arizona, with Randy Johnson pitching.
Now to the juice.

As the trading deadline neared its close (3:59pm to be exact), Manny got his wish and was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three team deal. Pittsburgh's Jason Bay will be sent to replace Ramirez and Boston gives up two minor leaguers and 7 million owed Ramirez for the rest of the season.
Ramirez has had an impressive carrier with RBIs (1,672), fifth in home runs (510), sixth in on-base percentage (.409) and seventh in batting average (.312).
Pittsburgh also picked future prospects, reliever Craig Hansen outfielder Brandon Moss from Boston, third baseman Andy LaRoche and pitcher Bryan Morris from the Dodgers. LaRoche, Moss and Hansen will join the Pirates. Bryan Morris will go to Class A Hickory.

Analise;
Manny being Manny, we will see more of the same from Ramirez his stats should remain the same. I don't think they will improve even though hes in an easier league. Worse case scenario is he gets caught up into the Hollywood seen.

Analysis:
Adam LaRoche, hit .203 with two home runs and six RBIs in 27 games for the Dodgers. A power-hitting prospect at 24, he spent most of this year at Triple-A Las Vegas.
No need to pick him up.

Analysis:
Hansen, was a first-round draft choice in 2005. His 5.58 ERA 1-3 and 2 saves in 32 games I would leave him alone.

Analysis:
Morris, a 21-year-old right-hander, was 2-4 with a 3.20 ERA for Class A Great Lakes.
He might get a call up later this season from class A. I don't see any help here this season.

Yankee Stadiums last All-Star Thriller

Yankee Stadiums last All-Star Thriller
by Dennis Paige/tabloidpaige.com
07/16/2008

Before we get into the All Star game, and the AL winning it for the twelfth straight year. I want to reflect a little on the history of Yankee Stadium. In 1921, the New York Yankees purchased 10 acres of land in the borough of The Bronx for $675,000. With a growing attendance brought on by the awesome slugging of Babe Ruth, the Yankee organization built Yankee Stadium in 1923. On opening day The Bambino, hit the first home run in the stadium in front of a crowd of 74,000 fans. The history of Yankee Stadium and the Yankees have surpassed all the others. By the players like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Phil Rizzuto, who then passed it on to Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris.
This stadium should have been added to the The National Register of Historic Places a long time ago, which would have protected her from any destruction at a future time. But now we will lose a piece of history, a place in time that fathers took sons and they took their sons for 85 years. As one of the premier ball parks in America its hard to say good-bye to an old friend and to welcome something that carries no history, except the memories of what was.

Now to the All Star game. For the 12th streight year the AL wins the All-Star game in the 15th inning by a walkoff by Michael Young. A history making game of 15 inning and a time of 4-hour, 50-minutes the AL wins it 4-3.

Derby contestants out to clear Stadium
No home run has ever been hit completely out of Cathedral
By Barry M. Bloom / MLB.com

NEW YORK -- The State Farm Home Run Derby comes to Yankee Stadium for the first time on Monday night and it couldn't have happened at a better time.

"How appropriate that it [and the All-Star Game] should be here in the stadium's 85th and final year?" said Hal Steinbrenner, the chairman of Yankee Global Enterprises and the younger son of George, the team's longtime owner and patriarch. "The Home Run Derby is going to be exciting and I know that people will be trying to hit it out of here, be the first to hit it out of here -- and good luck with that.
"I don't know if that's a reality or not, but I'm sure one or two of the participants will be trying. Obviously it will be a huge endeavor."
The Derby field appeared at a media conference on Monday afternoon in the Grand Hyatt Hotel and seemed quite ready for the evening's competition.
The Rays' Evan Longoria, Twins' Justin Morneau, Rangers' Josh Hamilton and Indians' Grady Sizemore are the American League representatives. The Astros' Lance Berkman, Brewers' Ryan Braun, Marlins' Dan Uggla and Phillies' Chase Utley will compete for the National League.
Morneau is the only repeater from last year's event in San Francisco's AT&T Park, which was won by the Angels' Vladimir Guerrero over Alex Rios of the Blue Jays. Morneau lost a five-pitch playoff against the Cards' Albert Pujols and didn't make it past the first round.
For Berkman, this will be his fourth Home Run Derby. Although he's never won, his results have run the gamut from uneventful in 2002 to spectacular in 2004, when he was defeated in his own home park by Miguel Tejada, then with the Orioles, who finished with a flurry. Berkman also called himself "a complete non-factor" in 2006 when he hit three and was out after the first round.
Berkman has the most career homers of any of this year's contestants -- 281. The remaining six are all first-timers in the Derby.
It would seem that the left-handed hitters -- Sizemore, Hamilton, Morneau and Utley -- would have a distinct advantage in the old stadium, where the famous right-field porch lingers within easy reach. Left field to left-center is the deepest part of the ballpark.

Utley highlight NL All-Star voting

Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley leads all vote getters in voting for the National League All-Star team, which will be announced Sunday.

NEW YORK, June 30 (UPI) -- Three Chicago Cubs lead at their positions and Philadelphia's Chase Utley remained the leading vote getter in balloting for the National League All-Star team.
Utley has piled up more than 2.6 million votes and owns a 1.5 million-vote lead over Chicago's Mark DeRosa in voting to decide the starting second baseman with the National League in the All-Star Game July 15 in New York's Yankee Stadium.
Vote totals were announced Monday by Major League Baseball. Voting at mlb.com continues through Wednesday with the teams announced Sunday.
Three Cubs are in position to secure starting spots. Catcher Geovany Soto and outfielders Alfonso Soriano and Kosuke Fukudome currently are ahead at those positions. But Fukudome has been passed by Cincinnati's Ken Griffey, Jr. and is just 20,000 ahead of Milwaukee's Ryan Braun.
Other leaders are Houston first baseman Lance Berkman, Florida shortstop Hanley Ramirez and Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones.
