Yankees catcher Jorge Posada will try to return to the lineup if his shoulder feels better when his stint on the disabled list is over.

Jorge Posada will postpone the inevitable surgery on his right shoulder, Joe Girardi said Wednesday.

The Yankees catcher, who has a torn labrum and rotator cuff damage, will likely take the entirety of his 15 days on the disabled list to see if he can strengthen his shoulder and consequently help the team as a designated hitter and first baseman. The injury has considerably diminished Posada's arm strength this season.

The team placed Posada on the disabled list this past Monday. He'd be eligible to play again on August 5.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman thinks that Posada's Injury Affects His Hitting, too.

Not a good sign from the Yanks GM... may force Posada to opt for the surgery.
